Rigoberta Menchú Tum was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1992 in recognition of her work for social justice and ethno-cultural reconciliation work based on respect for the rights of indigenous peoples in her native Guatemala. She is the first indigenous person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. In 2007, She is an author of many books and active activist towards working for justice in her native country.

The Area Chamber of Commerce along with the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union will be co-hosting a Legislative Breakfast on Monday, January 8th and all that are interested are welcome to attend.

Many of our Chamber members along with members of the Educational Community have questions/concerns about issues that legislators within Vermont will be tackling this session. Your local representatives, senators and other stakeholders will be in attendance to answer questions, give insight and provide an outlook of the year ahead.

COMMUNITY PLAYGROUP

CIS/Community Playgroup runs every Monday, except for holidays. Playgroup is for children and parents or caregivers. The age is usually 6 and under.

Guided free play, Literacy-story, finger plays, art project for parent and child, snack time and social time.

CDC THEATRE ARTS' PREMIERES ONE ACT PLAYS AT OLDCASTLE

Theatre lovers of all ages are excited to attend the premiere of the Center for Career Development Theatre Arts' original one act plays. Whether your favorite is comedy, drama, or the messy complications of life and love, there is something for everyone in each of these 9 plays.

Audiences will recognize many of the students from their work with the MAUHS Drama Club plays and musicals. The plays are written, produced, and acted by the students while the directors are Tim Foley,CDC Theatre Arts teacher (also the Drama Club adviser) and Eric Peterson, artistic director of The Oldcastle Theatre Company. So come out and support our community's budding actors and playwrights at a fun night at Oldcastle! Donations for a Theatre Arts Scholarships will be accepted.
