Town of Bennington Planning Commission Wednesday, May 5, 2004 5:00 p.m. Town Office Building 205 South Street, Bennington, Vermont 05201 MINUTES Present: Barry Horst - Chair, Bob Burgess - Clerk, Michael McDonough, Charles Copp, Sharon Yorke Also Present Dan Monks - Zoning Administrator, Meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. Work Session Land Use and Development Regulations Amendments - Urban Mixed Use District Design Standards The Planning Commission discussed, at length, the expectations they had for the UMU Design Standards, including the following; *Standards should differentiate the UMU District from the PC District. *A two story minimum should be required. *Perhaps the footprint of new buildings should be limited, especially for retail uses. *A maximum and minimum setback from the street should be developed conistent with historic development. *A minimum 8 over 12 roof pitch should be required. *A maximum height of 30-35 ft. should be set. *Gable or hipped roofs should be required. *Clapboard and/or brick should be the primary siding material. *EIFS should be prohibited. *All parking should be to the rear of buildings. *Lots should be interconnected and curb cuts should be minimized.
