BENNINGTON HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION Bennington Town Office - Conference Room - August 20, 2008 August 20, 2008 MINUTES MEMBERS PRESENT: Meg Campbell, Anne Bugbee, Laura Gresh, Jeff Goldstone and Scott Murphy. Also Present - Victor Rolando Victor Rolando shared with HPC that September is Archeology Month and also that Bennington is featured on the Archeology Poster. Victor also distributed the Archeology Newsletter to HPC members. 1. Minutes Approved as presented. 2. CLG Final Report - Scott will find out the date of the next CLG round. Meg noted that HPC members should think about what we would like to do in the next round. It was suggested to expand the "Then & Now" section of the website, specifically in the Historic District, another suggestion is to offer possible workshops for Realtors, Laura will obtain information regarding a workshop from a REMAX representative. Scott will also look on the website to find a link location. 3. DRB -Sign Permit Application -186 North Street, Visions Hair Salon Sign application was approved as presented. 4. Community Meeting Updates - Mike McDonough and the Fountain Committee made a presentation to the Select Board in regard to the Surdam Fountain to be located at Memorial Park on South Street. The Select Board approved the plans of the Fountain. The Fountain Committee would like HPC to work on the signage/interpretive signs for the Fountain. Scott will look into who made the signs on the pathway at the Bennington Station. Another possible suggestion for the next CLG round would be to pay for the Fountain Sign. 5. Other Preservation Issues - Meg handed out a memo to HPC in regard to the fence that has been constructed at the Paper Mill Covered Bridge. This memo will go to the Zoning Administrator Dan Monks. Anne will look up additional information on the Bridge and forward that information onto Meg.
