Bennington Historic Preservation Commission Meeting August 6, 2008, 2:30 pm Present: Meg Campbell, Anne Bugbee, Laura Gresh, Jeff Goldstone, and Scott Murphy. 1. Minutes The minutes from July 16, 2008 were presented and approved. 2. Website Project Spectrum Design has completed their work and our new website is available to all. Everyone seemed very satisfied with the completed project. Meg wanted Scott to check and see how the website linked up to the Town's website and a possible link to BBC's website. 3. DRB - There were not any sign applications. The Town brought up the possibility of replacing the rear facing windows in the Town Office Building with vinyl replacements. The Town is interested in heat conservation for the upcoming winter months and beyond. After much discussion, a list of questions regarding this project was drawn up and Scott will attempt to find answers for the Commission. 4. Community Meeting Updates The Indoor Tennis facility sponsored by part-time resident Richard Ader was approved by the Bennington Select Board at their last meeting. The facility will be a large bubble structure built over three tennis courts with an additional court outside. Mr. Ader will finance the project himself and it should cost approximately $750,000. Mr. Ader stated that there will be many benefits offered Bennington residents including youth and high school programs. 5. Other Preservation Issues - The new owner of the Paper Mill property has put up a stockade-type wooden fence which inhibits the view of the waterfall near the bridge. Meg will send Dan Monks and the DRB a letter stating our opposition to the fence and to the proposed bridge window restrictions. Anne updated the Commission on the historic Water Fountain project that will be rebuilt next to the BBC building and the Superior Court. The Rotary is sponsoring the project which will probably be built next spring. Next Meeting Date - August 20, 2008, 2:30 p.m. K:\Community Dev\HPC Folder\Minutes\HM2008.08.06.08wpd.wpd
