BENNINGTON HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION Bennington Town Office - Conference Room - July 31, 2007 MINUTES MEMBERS PRESENT: Tordis Ilg Isselhardt, Anne Bugbee, Meg Campbell, and Scott Murphy. ALSO PRESENT: Beth Antognioni EXCUSED: Laura Gresh 1. Minutes of July 11, 2007 Minutes were approved as written. 2. Website Discussion Meg spoke with Jonah from Spectrum Design regarding what was needed in creating 4 pages to include in the Town's website. If members from HPC created the 4 pages it would cost less than $100. Meg suggested HPC apply for Grant funding, in applying for the Grant, HPC would take the original concept of creating 4 pages and include additional resources to make it a comprehensive website. Tordis spoke with SHPO-Jane Lendway , and Jane mentioned that they would like to see the Bennington HPC apply for funding in hopes of being a potential model for other communities in regard to including information on the Town's website and how valuable it would be to the State. Sept. 1 is the CLG Grant deadline. Scott will email the Grant application to Meg. Meg will work on writing the Grant and forward an outline to HPC members, the bulk of this work will be done via email. 3. DRB Scott brought in a very preliminary permit for Peter Cross 629-641 Main Street-proposing additional units. HPC members should look at the area mentioned above. When the Town receives additional information Scott will bring it to HPC. 4. Community Meeting Updates Scott reported that BBC along with members of the Chamber and Town of Bennington have volunteered their time in putting lights up on the buildings in the downtown area for the promotion of Christmas in July, this promotion will run from July 18, 2007 until Christmas promoting the Christmas Tree that is going to the Capital from Bennington County. 5. Other Preservation Issues Scott has been working on a 2008 Transportation Enhancement Grant application for Pleasant Street between North Street and School Street. This work would consist of streetscape improvements. Meg noted that there has been no movement on the Walmart expansion, they have received an application extension of October 1. Scott brought a copy of the "National Alliance Review" to share with members, this newsletter will be shared with commission members each time we receive one. Tordis noted that HPC needs to follow up on At-Risk Properties, Meg noted that awareness is the 1st step. Anne mentioned that there was damage done again to the Village Cemetery, Beth also mentioned that Stuart just received a call noting that there were several stones down.
