BENNINGTON HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION Bennington Town Office Conference Room Wednesday, December 13, 2006 MINUTES MEMBERS PRESENT: Anne Bugbee, John Dostal, Tordis Ilg Isselhardt, Vic Rolando, and Scott Murphy. EXCUSED: Meg Campbell and Laura Gresh 1. Minutes of November 29, 2006 Minutes were accepted as written. 2. DRB - Applejack Historic Real Estate LLC. - The west side of the Bennington Brush Building on Depot Street will be renovated into a Bagel/Butcher Shop, and small grocery store. HPC could not approve the design that was presented, as it is unclear whether or not the west side of the building is in the Downtown Design Review District. HPC members should take a more in depth look into the buildings District location and provide feedback to Beth as soon as possible. 3. Community Meeting Updates Select Board - Scott reported that the Towns Financial Status was discussed and is in good standing and has been over the last few years. Tordis suggested that when members attend the Community Meetings that they forward a brief update of the meetings to Beth via email to share at the next HPC meeting. Members that attend the Community Meetings are not always able to attend HPC meetings to provide their update. 4. Public Hearing School Street Duplexes The Division for Historic Preservation is considering the nomination of 343-345 and 347-349 School Street Duplexes. HPC members reviewed the application and recommended the nomination of 343-345 and 347-349 School Street Duplexes for the National Register. There was no public comment other than HPC members at the meeting today. The HPC Chair and the Select Board Chair need to sign the application and HPC needs to submit the application by January 17, 2007. 5. Other Preservation Issues Moseley Bridge - Vic updated HPC regarding the visit today with Nancy Boone from the Historic Preservation Division, HPC Members first met at the Bennington Museum and then at the site of the bridge. HPC will be awaiting any information that Nancy Boone provides in regard to whether or not the bridge is a candidate for adaptive reuse. Vic forward pictures of the site visit to HPC members via email and John shared other pictures of the bridge at the meeting. Elm Street/Washington Avenue - Washington Elms Tordis questioned the work that was being done at the Washington Elms as it is in the Design Review District and did not come before HPC. Scott reports that the visible work being done is a temporary support system to help save the existing porches. Catamount School Status - members were wondering whether or not the Preservation Trust is still interested in that building. There was no updated provided.
