Rather than getting overwhelmed with abstract ideas, Meg suggested we work with the overall goal of increasing awareness and education of historic preservation and archeology issues in Bennington, and come up with a doable list of projects that meet accomplish that goal. Below are initial items that came up for discussion: • Create a resource for people who are working on renovations that include: painters, roofers, etc. • Expand National Register District. This will help people who would like to take advantage of the Rehabilitation Investment Tax Credit. • Offer a Real Estate Education Workshop to local Realtors. Laura will provide HPC with data for future discussion • Have an Open Door Event: Communities boast of their commercial buildings, courthouses, places of worship, gardens, natural heritage and other heritage sites. Admission is free. For more information log onto - www.doorsopenontario.on.ca/ • Provide a presentation on renovation practices: What should be done on old houses, windows, siding, roofing, etc. • Further Develop the At-Risk Sites Structures Survey. Make resource information available on the web. • Complete Neighborhoods Project, turn into a tool • Recognition Program • Reinvigorate Plaque Program • Expand National Register and Sites & Structures files • Archeology Awareness Education: A stand-alone publication or event and make an effort to incorporate this into anything above that we do.
