BENNINGTON HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION Town Office Conference Room Wednesday, November 9, 2005 MINUTES MEMBERS PRESENT: John Dostal, Meg Campbell, Anne Bugbee, Tordis Ilg Isselhardt, Victor Rolando and Scott Murphy. MEMBERS EXCUSED: Sharon Yorke 1. Minutes of October 26, 2005 1. BPI - Linda Wichlac & Pam Santarcangelo from BPI discussed their Implementation Grant regarding the Zacharia Harwood House. HPC was inspired by their presentation and their enthusiasm of the restoration that will take place while utilizing the barn to create Adult Day Care. Commission members are invited to tour the facility. 4. Other Preservation Issues Articles that were in the Bennington Banner regarding the condition and age of Catamount School prompted Isselhardt to suggest Catamount School be included as an At-Risk structure. Isselhardt moved and Dostal seconded the minutes of October 26, 2005 be approved as amended. 2. DRB Murphy noted that the Bank North sign has not been changed as recommended by the HPC. HPC will send a letter to Bank North recommending they change the sign, and Murphy will speak with Dan Monks requesting the Town's Code Enforcement Officer also send a letter. 3. Other Preservation Issues Dostal wondered if there was money available from the Town of Bennington to Fire Proof the covered bridges in Town, he will be bringing this request to the next Select Board Meeting. Campbell has been working very diligently on The Preservation Trust of Vermont 2005 Silent Auction by Mail. All bids must be received by 6 pm, Wednesday, November 23. It was suggested that HPC discuss Goals and Objectives at the next HPC meeting. Rolando mentioned he would be doing an inventory of bridges throughout the Town of Bennington by recording the location of the bridges and also any canals. 4. Presentation Rolando did a very thorough archaelogy presentation in regard to the Lemieux Brickyard off Gore Road. He would like to go into and explore the brick kiln on the property. Rolando will draft a letter to Duncan Wilke with HPC's support on protecting a local resource.
