BENNINGTON HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION Town Office Conference Room WEDNESDAY, February 12, 2003 - 3:00 p.m. MINUTES MEMBERS PRESENT: Sharon Yorke, Nicolle Woodward, Hugh Baker, Victor Rolando, William B. Colvin and Tordis Ilg Isselhardt (arrived at 3:15). Also Present: Beth Antognioni and Mike McDonough (DRB presentation) Members Excused: Ann Bugbee, John Dostal, and David Aldrich Yorke called the meeting to order at 3:07 p.m. 1. Minutes The minutes of January 29, 2003 should be amended, as follows: Next two HPC meetings will be February 12, 2003 and February 26, 2003. Rolando moved and Woodward seconded that the Minutes of January 29, 2003 be approved as amended. Passed. 2. DRB Update Nature's Closet, 400 Main Street Mike McDonough, project consultant for "Nature's Closet" presented two schemes for renovations to the building. Rolando motioned and Baker seconded that HPC support the basic presentation and desired facade treatments as proposed. Passed, unanimously. 3. Cultural Resource Management Plan Tabled until February 26, 2003. 4. At Risk Sites & Structures Forms No forms at this time. 5. Other Preservation Issues Isselhardt questioned the status of Neighborhood Visual Assessment, Survey and Training Study. Colvin noted that he will be working on an RFP to send out; time table for completion is July 1, 2003. HPC members should think about ideas for this years CLG application. Isselhardt brought a draft of the "Molly Stark Trail Byway through the Green Mountains". Public Hearing will be in Wilmington on March 11 or March 12, 2003. Isselhardt shared that she had received her certificate on becoming a Certified Interpretive Guide. Colvin noted that there was a Preliminary Design/Local Concerns meeting for the Depot Street Enhancement Project at the Bennington Station on 2/10/03. Design elements will include historic period lighting, possible brick ribbon, new curbing. Scope of the project will be along the Depot Street corridor between Main Street and River Street. Also included in the project may be some additional lighting behind Bennington Station. The meeting was adjourned at 4:20 p.m. Respectfully submitted, William B.
