Town of Bennington 1998 Annual Report
There are currently 373 Bennington residents volunteering through RSVP in 85 nonprofit agencies and public institutions in Bennington. This past year organizations received a total of 28,454 hours of service from RSVP volunteers. RSVP volunteers also serve in a variety of other ways that benefit citizens in communities all over the county. Examples include "friendly visiting" with residents in nursing homes; coordinating volunteer recognition functions; serving in an advisory capacity to the RSVP project director; participating in fund raising events; delivering meals on wheels; and assembling bulk mailings for agencies with a critical need to get their service information out to community residents.
The Bennington County Volunteer Center, established by RSVP in 1997 for volunteers under the age of 55, fosters its mission of "Promoting the spirit and advancing the work of volunteer service in Bennington county" under the same principles as RSVP. During this past year 97 volunteer center volunteers served a total of 4,515 hours in nonprofit agencies in Bennington. These hours represent an additional value of $40,635 returned to the community.
