Town of Bennington 1998 Annual Report

PROJECT AGAINST VIOLENT ENCOUNTERS (PAVE)

Project Against Violent Encounters (PAVE) is a non-profit organization providing many services to victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence. These services include a 24-hour hotline, court and social service advocacy, community education, safe-homes for emergency placement, financial assistance, case management, support groups and information and referrals to other agencies.

For the past several years, PAVE has consistently expanded, adding new staff and programs to help serve the needs of survivors. We find ourselves in a comfortable position now to maintain what we've built.

One of our most successful new programs continues to be our children's education program. Our children's educator goes into the 4th and 6th grades and provides a 7- week curriculum on abuse, street smarts, self esteem among other topics. During the last school year, she had contact with over 300 Bennington County students. This year, she has already been scheduled in over 18 classrooms.

We continue to provide quality service to those in need, which include our ongoing support through case management and the support groups. In addition, our community education events such as the candlelight vigil and bell ringing ceremony serve to heighten the issues of sexual and domestic violence in the community.

Respectfully submitted,
Sandy Bolivar, Executive Director
