Town of Bennington 1998 Annual Report

In 1998, the voters of Bennington and North Bennington voted to support an allocation of $10,000 for Adult Daycare Services through Bennington Project Independence. For the Town's investment of $10,000, Bennington Project Independence was able to provide quality adult daycare services valued at $182,759 for families in Bennington ad North Bennington.

Throughout 1998, Bennington Project Independence provided flexible, individually tailored activities, designed to focus, support and enhance the strengths of each person regardless of disability or need.

As a Veterans Administration recognized Adult Day Health Center, we provide on-site nursing care, resource information and referral and community educational programs. Our handicapped accessible vehicles enabled us to better assist individuals, maintain their sense of self-reliance, through the completion of tasks'many of us take for granted, such as grocery or personal shopping.

Besides direct service to the individual in need, Bennington Project Independence functions as a Day Respite Center for families involved in caring for an older or disabled relative. Care giving, without support or relief, can have a profound effect on all of the family. Bennington Project Independence is an important helping hand for care givers struggling to balance the demands of family and career.

As our older population rises, the demand for quality Adult Daycare as an option for individuals and families, will also grow. Many of our neighbors and friends may need a helping hand in order to continue to be active members of our community. Only with the continued support from communities like Bennington and North Bennington, can Bennington Project independence, Adult Day Service continue to offer a helping hand.
