DOWNTOWN IMPROVEMENT COMMISSION
The Downtown Improvement Commission is made up of five volunteer Commissioners
appointed by the Select Board, and meets once each month. All meetings are warned
and open to the public.
The Downtown Improvement Commission purpose is as follows:
- To oversee public money ($40,000) raised by the Downtown Improvement
Commission
- To advocate for continual downtown improvements
- To ensure the charter mandate establishing the Downtown Improvement
Commission is carried out
The Downtown Improvement Commission, the Town, and the Better Bennington
Corporation act as partners to continually make progress in identifying, maintaining, and
developing a pleasing and functionally effective downtown. Downtown Improvement
Commission continues to guide the promotion of the District and assist in addressing
public improvements.
The Downtown Improvement Commission contracts with the Better Bennington
Corporation whose mission is downtown revitalization. The Better Bennington
Corporation utilizes a nationally recognized method of achieving results, the "National
Main Street Strategy", and has a track record of effectiveness.
The Downtown Improvement Commission, along with the Better Bennington
Corporation, invites everyone to participate in the continued efforts for downtown
revitalization.
