Town of Bennington 1998 Annual Report

MANAGER'S MESSAGE

The Annual Report contains reports of activity for all Town departments, the Audit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1998, and reports from Agencies receiving Town funding.

It is interesting to note that statutes generally require only the Audit be printed. The Warning for the coming Town Meeting must be included if it is not published thirty days in advance of the Floor Meeting. In Bennington, we do both.

The Annual Report must be distributed ten days before the Floor Meeting. Many towns and cities simply offer copies at the Town or City Hall. In Bennington, we distribute to as many households as possible through either the Bennington Banner or the Pennysaver, depending on the results of a competitive bid process.

Bennington's Charter enlarges the statutory requirements by including in the report "administrative activities" of the prior year.

Over the years, our Report has grown in content. The tradition of funded Agencies reporting began when revenue sharing monies were distributed to various Agencies.

I now present to you the Annual Report for the Town of Bennington. It contains a wealth of information. I trust you will find it helpful.
