The Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce is collecting ads for the 2014/2015 Area Guide. All reservations and payments are due December 31st. This is a business expense for 2013. Copy is due January 15th. We are placing the print work early this year since we had a huge demand on our Guides this past year. We have also increased the number to be printed. We expect many copies to go out through the new BenningtonWelcomeCenter. Eric Wood will be contacting many of you shortly.
The ChamberBuilding at 100 Veterans Memorial Drive will be under construction for the near future. The sewage backup has left us with considerable damage. We are operating but not really open for the general public. Access to the building will be through the back door. If we are expecting you, please knock or ring the bell to let us know you are there and we will come down to let you in.
The Norshaft Lions Club Christmas trees are here. They are all beautiful and cost $35. The Lions will be on site and happy to help you select the size and shape you want. The money goes to help them with the many charitable projects they do for our community.
December 4th the Town and the Veterans Home Tree Lighting will be held on the Vets’ Home property at the gazebo. The ceremony will take place at 5:30 so come a bit earlier.
The Mt Anthony Chorus will be singing and the Color Guard will be present. This will be a lovely evening to kick off the community’s holiday and share the festivities with our veterans.
On December 7th there will be a parachuting Santa Claus coming in at the William B. Morse airport here in Bennington at 1:00 p.m. That is a Saturday, so bring your family and group together so he can aim to land close to you. The airport is under new management and they have lots of plans to be involved in the community. What a great start!
I hope everyone enjoyed Thanksgiving. I did. It is such a nice time to spend with family and friends. Everything smells so delicious. I always remember the football games in the background while my mother bustled around in the kitchen. With aunts and uncles in the house we always had the coffee going. There were always two or three conversations at one time and lots of laughter. I especially loved the stories of “the old days”. If we were very lucky there would be some snow and we could get out the sleds for the first time. Now I am the grown up. So I have my own traditions as I carry forward the old ones. We make a giant cookie house all weekend to set the mood for the season. Of course it involves a lot of tasting of the materials. Sometimes I wonder how we manage to save enough to finish the project. Everyone pitches in from the tiny ones to the adults. I think at this time of year we all need to celebrate the child in us. We don’t just build a cookie house, we build memories.
Remember to get your $10 tickets for the Old Castle WBTN Radio Holiday Pageant on December 14th. This will be just like sitting in a radio studio as they broadcast skits, music, stories and other entertaining pieces. The program begins at 7:00p.m. so you can go out for dinner downtown afterward. CallOldCastle and WBTN for more details.

Enjoy shopping local and visiting our area merchants. It is really fun to go down the street and see familiar faces as you start your holiday shopping.
See you out there.
